New Version + Optional Donations


Hello everybody! Plush Bunch is excited to announce v0.20 of Boiling Over! This version is the culmination of our team's work during our Fall 2021 Production Studio class at RIT. We are quite proud of the work that we managed to complete this semester while also juggling being graduate students. You can view the complete change log at the end of this devlog, if you'd like all of the deets.

You might notice that you now have the option to support the developers financially. Any and all donations will go to the further development of this game, either for paying external asset creators, purchasing tools/licenses, or supporting existing developers. Boiling Over will always remain free to download, and donations are totally optional. This is purely a passion project for our team, and our default payment is creative satisfaction (sadly, you can't cash that out at the bank).

We hope that you will give our game a try, whether or not you're a new player or a grizzly veteran! In either case, we strongly encourage you to fill out our feedback survey so that we can get a good understanding of how players feel about the core gameplay in Boiling Over.

Changes

  • Removed Calendar View in Bullet Journal
  • An innumerable number of tweaks to the behind-the-scenes numbers for a more balanced game experience
  • Increased the contrast for the ingredient quality stars and added a metallic sheen to the sprites
  • Mini-game pass/fail feedback changed to show the quality star instead of checks and circles

New Features

  • Added a flavor shot mini-game
  • Added a chance for flavor to be added to a customer's drink order
  • Added a tutorial to explain flavor shots
  • Replaced Calendar with a Stats page to show Hazel's stats
  • Customers now have a wider variety of things that they will say to Hazel, and will change what they say in the second dialogue based on the first interaction with Hazel

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a bug that allowed the player to bypass activity requirements
  • Player maximum speed will actually increase as intended when you play video games
  • The player can now take the next customer's order before the last customer de-spawns
  • Penny no longer draws over Hazel
  • The bullet journal will no longer appear until the player has clicked "Okay" on the activity results dialogue
  • Object popups will not longer appear in the center of the screen for a split-second before jumping to the correct position
  • Pausing while Fungus dialogue is open should no longer cause issues

Known Issues

  • The timer display at the start of the shift doesn't start at 0 during cut scenes; it's either glitch text or the last time value from the last shift.
  • Interactable Objects with an outline will draw the outline over Hazel
  • Adding ingredients to your cup without having a current order can occasionally soft-lock the game (but the pause menu is still accessible)
